Contemporary Borders Garden Design
The brief was to create borders that matched the contemporary look of the garden lay-out. A strong structure in the winter months was key, as well as leaving empty pockets of planting so that the owners, who are keen gardeners, could add annuals for seasonal interest.
The challenge consisted in linking the generous South-facing border with the long and narrow North-facing bed.
This was overcome by dividing the South facing bed into smaller sections thanks to strips of evergreen Pieris ‘Little Heath’, Pittosporum ‘Tom Thumb’ and clipped buxus. These same shrubs, chosen for their contrasting foliage, were then planted in cluster in the middle of the North-facing bed to act as a focal point.
The scheme was then completed with a mix of ornamental grasses and perennials in vivid colours for an airy and lush look all-year-around.
