Urban Modern Garden Design, St Johns Wood

The garden was to become the focal point of the newly refurbished living area and as such the key was to bring light and interest to a pretty sad looking outdoor space.

The key issues were a fairly flat space surrounded by abnormally, and unnecessarily, high fencing, itself covered with ivy. Decreasing the height of the fence by 50cm, replacing the ivy with neat looking slatted trellis and using light coloured hard-landscaping were easy fixes to allow the light to flow again.

The scheme uses a geometric pattern of interlocking paths and raised beds. The two paths mirror each other in shape and size adding symmetry the scheme while the four raised beds add vertical interest to the space while creating a natural alcove for the barbecue.

The lines of the new space are clean and the feeling one of lightness and openness. And the owners love it.
